If you had told me years ago that I would one day spend my mornings cuddling newborn babies in my studio, helping new parents preserve some of the sweetest moments of their lives, I probably would have smiled and said, I hope so.
Because for a long time, becoming a mother felt uncertain.
Like many women who have walked the road of infertility, I spent years hoping, praying, waiting, and wondering when it would finally be my turn. Month after month, appointment after appointment, I carried the weight of unanswered prayers while trying to hold onto hope.
Looking back now, I realize something surprising.
In many ways, my newborn photography business was born from that hope.
When Newborn Photography Felt Like a Prayer
When I first started photographing newborns, I wasn’t yet a mom myself.
But I loved babies.
I loved the connection between parents and their children. I loved documenting those tiny details that change so quickly. I loved preserving memories that families would treasure forever.
At the time, I don’t think I fully realized it, but building a newborn photography business felt a little bit like preparing for the life I was praying for.
Every newborn session reminded me of the family I hoped to have one day.
Every tiny wrapped baby and every proud parent fueled my faith that maybe, somehow, my own motherhood story was still being written.
It wasn’t about manifesting in the traditional sense. It was more about creating space for hope while trusting God with the outcome.
Photography became a way to stay connected to the dream while I waited.
The IVF Journey That Changed Everything
After years of infertility, my husband and I turned to IVF.
Like so many families who have walked this path, it was emotional, overwhelming, and filled with moments of uncertainty.
There were days when hope felt easy and days when it felt impossible.
Then came the miracle that changed everything.
Our son.
Becoming a mother after infertility gave me a completely different perspective on the families I photograph today.
I understand what it feels like to long for a baby.
I understand how precious every milestone can be.
I understand why moms cry when they see their newborn gallery.
Because sometimes those images represent so much more than just a baby.
Sometimes they represent years of waiting.
Years of prayers.
Years of heartbreak.
Years of hope.
How Motherhood Changed the Way I Photograph Newborns
Motherhood didn’t just change me personally. It changed the way I run my photography business.
Today, when a family walks into my studio, I see things differently.
I know how quickly those newborn days disappear.
I know how tiny those fingers really are.
I know how exhausted new parents can feel while simultaneously wanting time to slow down.
I know what it’s like to stare at your baby and wonder how they grew overnight.
As a mom, I have become even more passionate about preserving these moments because I understand firsthand how fleeting they are.
The photos matter.
The memories matter.
The legacy matters.
Why Every Motherhood Journey Deserves to Be Celebrated
One thing infertility taught me is that every path to motherhood is unique.
Some families conceive easily.
Some experience loss.
Some grow their families through IVF.
Some wait years for their miracle.
And every story matters.
Every baby is worth celebrating.
Every mother deserves to feel seen.
That’s something I carry into every newborn photography session in my Star, Idaho studio.
Whether your journey was straightforward or filled with unexpected twists, your story is important.
A New Perspective on Newborn Photography
Today, newborn photography is about so much more than creating beautiful images.
It’s about honoring a family’s story.
It’s about preserving the miracle that finally arrived.
It’s about helping parents remember these moments long after the sleepless nights and tiny diapers are gone.
My infertility journey gave me empathy.
Motherhood gave me perspective.
Together, they’ve shaped the photographer I am today.
And every time I photograph a newborn baby, I’m reminded of the faithfulness of God and the beautiful ways He writes stories that are often very different from what we imagined.
